8 MARCH WORLD WOMEN’S DAY 2016

“Social development can only be achieved by a men-women collaboration.

Societies in which women are ignored are doomed to regression.”

                                     Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK

                               August, 1928

On the occasion of 8 March World Women’s Day, Müjgan Suver, the President of Marmara Group Foundation EU and Human Rights Platform, has released a statement including her greeting to women all around the world.

“The raison d’etre of 8 March is to extinguish the silence in society regarding the issue of gender equality! Women are granted equal rights when it comes to taking part in education, business, politics, in all spheres of life and, last but not least, seats we are occupying.”

Giving place to most basic rights of women in legislation and in declamations is not merely enough to realize those rights. Respecting and practicing those rights are as vital as making them.

Realization of those rights is possible only if a successful transformation programme regarding this matter is encouraged and backed by senior management.

Regretfully, our country enjoy a tragic ranking in the lists of developed countries. No matter be it men or women; assigned or elected; or just an ordinary citizen; all of us should assume the duty to strive for realizing gender equality and monitoring the process.

Being just is not treating equally the unequals. Being just is, indeed, endeavoring to make the unequals equal.
