The speech of Dr. Akkan Suver in Vienna Economic Forum in Moldova is following:

“As Marmara Group Foundation, we are very proud of our strategic partnership with Vienna Economic Forum whose  activities and studies in the Balkans are of upmost importance.

Vienna Economic Forum is a well accepted civil initiative which emphasizes the importance of Balkan countries for Europe’s solidarity and the effort they put in integrating the Balkans with the criterias of the European Union.

During the last decade, The Forum has done some very important works, one of them is gathering us today, here in Chisinau.

I value this meeting.

For that reason, I am among with you today.

First of all, kindly let me mention about commercial and political relations between Turkey and Moldova.

We, as Turkey, consider Moldova as an important partner of cooperation in the region. Especially, lifting the visa requirement three weeks ago, commercial relations between Turkey and Moldova will increase. Turkey’s aim is to form a strategic partnership with Moldova. By signing of Free Trade Aggreement, we aim to increase the trade volume.

As you are aware, Turkey has many goals such as getting in the top ten largest economy in the world in 2023, increasing income per capita to 25.000 $ and foreign trade volume to one trillion $ and over.

I would like to emphasise that Turkey’s foreign trade volume plays an important role in gaining acceleration of Turkish Economy.  The foreign trade volume between Turkey and Moldova has increased. Ten years ago, in 2002, the  foreign trade volume between our countries was 44 million dollar. In 2013, it has increased to 537 million dollars. In 2002, our export to Moldova was 40 million dollar. In 2013, it has increased to 276 million dollars. Currently, Turkey is the 8th country in Moldova’s import and the 4th country in Moldova’s export. We believe that these numbers do not reflect the true economical potential. I believe that we should put more effort to reach the 1 billion dollar aim of our Prime Ministers.

In order to increase cooperation and add new dimensions to economical and commercial relations between two countries, it is essential that the Free Trade Agreement is signed as soon as possible.

It is a fact that commercial relations as well as bilateral investments will increase with the Free Trade Aggreement. Currently, there are more than a hundred Turkish firms which are active in Moldova and these firms’ investment value is 350 million dollars. Day by day, our firms seek new opportunities to make more investments in Moldova. I would like to inform you that our  Government encourage Turkish firms to invest in Moldova.

From the point of view of construction business and technical consultancy, commercial and economic relations of Turkey and Moldova remain undiscovered. Since 1972, Turkish contractors have undertaken 7371 (seven thousand three hundred and seventy one) projects which are worth of 274.1 billion dollars in 103 different countries.

On the other hand, please let me address to Gagauzians in Moldova. Gagauzians are diligent and productive people.

Gagauzians play an important role as historical and firm bridge in friendly relations between Moldova and Turkey; therefore we really appreaciate Moldova for providing the opportunity to Gagauzian to govern themselves with their Turkish identity.

Truthfully, this community's desire to live within their homeland as decent citizens, contributes to the welfare of Moldova. The share of Gagauzians, whom are loyal citizens of Moldova is quite large in respect to developing our relationship in the fields of economy, trade, transportation, culture, education and so on.

In this context, I would like to state that relations between Turkey and Moldova will strengthen in a short time”.
