Dr. Akkan Suver’s Speech at the China Chamber of Commerce

QINGDAO

13.11.2015

Today, we have come together here to evaluate an open philosophy, which has no certainly defined borders, but is aimed at holding politics, economy and cultures together. I would like to start my speech with thanking most sincerely for their warm hospitality to the authorities of China Chamber of International Commerce, who invited us to this remarkable occasion.

We are all aware of the fact that complex and profound changes are taking place in the world. The underlying impact of the international financial crisis keeps emerging; the world economy is recovering slowly, and global development is uneven; the international trade and investment landscape and rules for multilateral trade and investment are undergoing major adjustments; and countries still face big challenges to their development.

The Land and Maritime Silk Road Economic Initiative aims to promote the connectivity of Asian, European and African continents and their adjacent seas, establish and strengthen partnerships among the countries along the road, set up all-dimensional, multi-tiered and composite connectivity networks, and realize diversified, independent, balanced and sustainable development in these countries.

We know very well that the Land and Maritime Silk Road Economic Initiative is in line with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.

It upholds the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. So, what are these 5 principles? They are: Mutual respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, mutual non-aggression, mutual non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, and peaceful coexistence.

Let me stop here and point out the following:

As the Marmara Group Foundation, I would like to bring to the attention of an important incidence we left behind in the previous week.

Albeit we keep on realizing this meeting, the world’s most prominent politics leader come together at the G20 Summit in Turkey, my country at the moment.

This is an event of crucial importance but at the same time, another event that we have experienced was the meeting of the PR China and the president of Taiwan, which fulfilled the one of the Five Principles of the United Nations.

Notwithstanding, the meeting of the President of the People Republic of China Xi JINPING and the President of Taiwan Ma YING-JEOU is of greater importance.

I do attach an immense significance to this get-together.

Other than that, Xi JINPING, the President of the PRC, by referring that this today’s meeting would be gone down in history, stated that this come-together had turned over a new leaf in the relations between the two sides of the two straits.

H.E. Ma, however, declared that both sides, so as to ensure the win-win situation and reciprocal benefits, were required to show consideration one another pertaining to the values and life styles of each party.

Me, in terms of the peaceful perspective, would like to emphasize that I have welcomed the meeting and talks taking place between the both leaders. I proceed from the fact that the facilitation of the stable and peaceful relations between both sides will provide with a new contribution to the world peace.

From the thought of a single China, this initiative has become a commencement. The talks are in the interest of both sides.

Taiwan is also a part of China, though.

The unity of the country leads to the peace and prosperity in that sense.

What incumbent on us, as the representative of NGO’s, is to strive to fortification of the unity.

For that reason, I, once again, celebrate and appreciate the PR China and Taiwan. Tonight, I feel obliged to speak out this fact at the China International Chamber of Commerce.
