The Peace and Freedom Day of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus TRNC was celebrated

In 1955, the Greek Cypriots formed the EOKA terrorist organization under the name of ENOSIS to implement the concept of Hellenistic expansion and annexation of Cyprus to Greece. EOKA carried out massacres against the Turkish Cypriots, attempting to eliminate their presence on the island by exerting pressure and oppression. The possibility of coexistence between the Turkish and Greek sides disappeared. International negotiations under the guarantee of Turkey, Greece, and the United Kingdom began on the island but did not yield results. Eventually, the pro-ENOSIS Greeks staged a coup on July 15, 1974, against President Makarios' government. Turkey used its guarantor power to protect the existence and political rights of the Turkish community on the island. On July 20, 1974, the Turkish Army launched the Cyprus Peace Operation to prevent the genocide of the Turkish people and the annexation of Cyprus to Greece. On this significant day, the Consul General of the TRNC in Istanbul, Seniha Birand, hosted a reception. Along with the civil and military authorities in Istanbul, Engin Köklüçınar and Prof. Dr. Uğur Özgöker also attended the reception on behalf of the Marmara Group Foundation.
