Marmara Group Foundation Academic Council President Prof. Dr. Atilla Dicle wrote a beautiful book in which he reflects his family life intertwined with his academic life, starting from Van Başkale and extending to America and Japan with his academician wife Ülkü Dicle, from his own window of life. In his book, our dear friend Atilla Dicle, through the window he opens to the outside world, presents us not only the Academic and Family life, but also the portraits of many interesting people he met in those times, reviews and important events of the era. Atilla Dicle, while describing the universities he served, the work done and friendships he also summarizes the development process of private universities in Turkey in the historical process. Again, in his book, he shares with the reader the beauties he encountered during his trips at home and abroad with his friends. In the appendices of the book, Atilla Dicle did not forget to include a general information about his birthplace and the political, ethnic and social structure of Van-Başkale and its surroundings, along with footnotes. He did very well. In this way, we learn the answers to many questions in our minds from his book. The book, in which he reinforced his writings with photographs, has turned into a novel of a life and an era. As he set out with the intention of telling his life story, Atilla Dicle, who started taking the notes of his book in 2003, offers his reader a wonderful cross-section of Turkey's academic, political and social life in his 1000-page book, which is the product of great care and effort.
