October 11th International Day of the Girl Child

On December 19, 2011, United Nations General Assembly resolved to declare October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child in the frame of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The International Day of the Girl Child focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights through education.

Effective supporting of young girls will help the prevention of discrimination and violence they face in their daily life and hence contribute to a stronger and equitable society.

In 2016, an action plan primarily for equal access to education was adopted under “ The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals – The empowerment of girls” resolution. The aim is to support girls to be independent and equal members in their family and in their society.

As the EU and Human Rights Platform of the Marmara Group Foundation we wish all our children, girls and boys to have an inclusive, equitable, innovative quality education based on scientific contemporary principles and standards. We hope and expect a determined governmental policy to for the implementation of these standards, in this new school year.
Somewhere a girl child is waiting for your help.
