Replica Gift from Aziz Sancar to Mardin University

Turkey's Nobel Prize-winning scientist Prof.Dr. Aziz Sancar gave a gift to Anıtkabir at a ceremony held at the Anıtkabir to be exhibited because he had previously given the Nobel Prize to Büyük Atatürk. Prof. Dr. Sancar presented one of the three original Replicas the Nobel Committee traditionally awarded with the Prize to the Istanbul University, his Alma Mater. He gave the second Replica to the University he was working with. Prof.Dr. Aziz Sancar presented the last Replica to the University of his Birthplace. At the a ceremony held at the Hilton Hotel on this occasion, Mardin Foundation's Presidents Att. Haluk Eldem and Governor Kemal Nehrozoglu gave Sancar's Nobel Replica to the Rector of the Artuklu University. After the Rector accepted the gift, he explained that the date of 19 January will be celebrated as Aziz Sancar Day in Mardin from now on. Professor Sancar especially emphasized that he owes merit of the Nobel Prize to Atatürk while addressing guests via video conferences. The ceremony, which was held with a big participation of guests from Mardin, was attended by Syriac Patriarch Deputy Yusuf Cetin and Syriac Chorister Orhan Çanlı. At this meaningful ceremony held for Prof.Dr. Aziz Sancar, Dr. Akkan Suver and his spouse Müjgan Suver were also present.
