We visited Gagauzia

The Marmara Group Foundation visited Kishinev and Comrat during the 3. Gagauzian Investment Meeting. Dr. Akkan Suver, Şamil Ayrım and Cafer Oktay, who represented the Marmara Group Foundation, were first invited to a lunch by the former President of Moldova, Petru Lucinschi. After lunch, the Gagauzian president Irina Vlah welcomed the committee of the Marmara Group Foundation. Dr. Akkan Suver, Şamil Ayrım and Cafer Oktay also visited Hulusi Kılıç Ambassador of Kishinev, in his office.

During the 3. Gagauzian Investment Meeting in Comrat, Dr. Akkan Suver participated as spokesman as representative of the Marmara Group Foundation. The committee that attended the Ananiev Gagavuz Holiday on November 5th, was warmly welcomed and achieved a great attention by the Gagauzian people.

Please find Dr. Akkan Suver's speech from the meeting in Gagauzia below

My precious Gagauzian friends,

I want to begin my speech with the Turkish-Gagauzian relationship that started 86 years ago. Hereby, I want to commemorate three precious people and the importance for our relationship they put forth.

The great scientist of the Gagauze region, Mihail Çakır.

The important name of the Turkish nationalism, Hamdullah Suphi Tanrıöver.

And the great leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

The great scientist Mihail Çakır, who lived between 1861 and 1938, was the one who translated the Bible into the Gagauzian language.

It was also him, who ensured and stood up to keep the Gagauzian language alive.

In his significant book "The History of Bessarabian Gagauze" he wrote the following: "Other nations accepted the Gagauze as soft, peaceful and quickly socializing. All of these points show the Gagauzşian character, sentiment, tradition and habitude.

Furthermore, the Gagauze are genuine Turks. Their language is genuine Turkish.

All known historians express that the Gagauze derive from the Oghuz."

Getting to know the owner of these thoughts in 1931, the Ambassador of Bucharest in Turkey, Hamdullah Suphi Tanrıöver, advised the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk about this acquaintance.

When Atatürk heard about the thoughts and works of Mihail Çakır, which brought a national identity to the Gagauze, he honored him with a diploma and a medal.

Under the great light of Mihail Çakır's precious knowledge, the Ambassador Hamdullah Suphi Tanrıöver made it possible for young Gagauze to take up their education in Turkey.

He continued to support the students yearly until the Second World War.

Today, I want to continue with my speech while commemorating Mihail Çakır, Hamdullah Suphi Tanrıöver and the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

Hereupon, dear Gagauze, you are our brothers and sisters.

There is no such community like yours, who saved their tradition and language despite all circumstances in the whole history of mankind.

By coloring and strengthening the Turkish-Moldovan cooperation, the Gagauze build a very significant brigde in this relationship.

With their idea of "work together, earn together, live together", they own the added value of the Moldovan wealth.

Let us now return to our topic.

We are talking about investment in Gagauzia.

It's sufficient climate, the unique geography, it's rich soil and biological diversity makes Gagauzia a center of fascination for agriculture, food, textile and industry.

But this is not enough.

It needs to increase.

In this regard, I want to revive an issue within our civil social identity, about which I have been thinking as a very important for many years.

By all manner of means, Gagauzia has to build legations in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir.

Diplomatically, I am of the opinion that the Gagauzia open up legations by showing flexibility and without harming the governmental sovereignty of our Moldovan friends.

This representation has to be rather an economic than a politic or diplomatic one.

Ergo, this office will take aim at bringing Gagauzia closer to our business world and also serve to protect and develop their special identity, to allow them to live in prosperity.

Not only the Moldovan, but also the Turkish people will be delighted to see the Gagauzia living a happy life within the independent and sovereign Moldova.

This office shall not disturb the Moldova state, it has to be built right in this way.

The results will strengthen the Turkish-Moldovan relationships.

Using a larger expression, I hope that such an office will provide efficient economic services since I believe that Moldova and Turkey will draw their people closer to each other.

Because Turkey care much about the relationship to Moldova.

Be it in the binary field or in the regional and international forums, please do not forget that Turkey makes every effort to develop our cooperation.

There will be a new dimension and sense within our relationship since our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will visit Gagauzia in the next year.

By the way, there is a Turkish proverb. It says "The girl builds the state, the boy builds the army". Now, Gagauiza's president is a lady. I want to salute H.E. Irina Vlah from here. This lady will grow the living state even more. I fully believe in this.

With these thoughts, I salute your high committee.

I truly believe and I hope that the Turkish-Moldovan relationship will be even more efficient under the leadership of Irina Vlah and I offer my respects to you.

Thank you.
