''AN INTERNATIONAL UNION OF PRESTIGE''

TOPICS TO BE ADDRESSED IN THE

17th EURASIAN ECONOMIC SUMMIT

February 4-6, 2014 - Istanbul

Human Trafficking

(Involuntarily Migration)

Human trafficking consisted of illegal workers, immigrants and refugees along with women and children has reached to a level that is threatening the civilization. It is established by the international data that approximately 500.000  women and children brought from far-east and middle-east  and sold in Western Europe alone. Especially trafficking of girls and women is observed in the 85% of the conflict zones. It is again established by the international data that the illegal money acquired through human trafficking amounts billions of Euros. The insufficiency of the international legal regulations, the lack of international cooperation and coordination between borders, the deficiency and the lack of strategies and precautions to prevent the sexual abuse of women and children are another dimension of the issue's importance.

the Future of Economy and Energy from Local to Global on Silkroad

Developments in economy and energy should be evaluated in context of Silkroad philosophy. Silkroad, which is a philosophy and equality project, will bring pacific and Baltic Sea together.  The developments in the fields of economy and energy are flustering everyone and this shows importance the value of Silkroad project. If we are to accept that the monetary policies that are being implemented can not be consistent, unless world economy experiences betterment, the increasing energy values will likely cause new economic crises. Countries' foreign economic conjuncture and the impact of regional developments on countries are proportionate with energy. Again, countries own domestic political and social dynamics' and market expectations' connection with energy is also a reality. If the natural resource capacity forming in the consumption falls short from the required level, the fact that energy will significantly affect the economy is another reality. And because it is known that sustainable prosperity can be achieved through more democracy, the future of the economy-energy spiral and Silkroad Projects are the future of humanity itself.

Sustainable Development and Change in the Local Government

(Change in Local Dynamics)

The realization of development in a country can only be achieved through realization of ecological, economic and social sustainability. Indications such as democracy and human rights are also required to be considered within the concept of development. Today in an environment where the conditions of competition increasing rapidly, the importance of local and regional development models are also increasing in parallel to globalization. In the future the concept of ''comparative superiority of nations'' will be replaced by the concept of ''comparative superiority of cities and regions.''

the Importance of Peace: Dialogue from Local to Global

The conflicts and clashes circulating in our region are drawing the people apart from peace with every passing day. It is a known fact that the lack of dialogue is creating a separate support mechanism to those who are in favor of conflict. If we also accept that the source of disputes, conflicts and discrimination is the lack of dialogue, the importance of dialogue for our future will be revealed by definition. Due to these circumstances, what we need for the local and global peace that we await is dialogue and more dialogue.

Interdisciplinary Approach to Technology and Design

It is required to put an end to cultural stagnation, the slowing trend of social dynamism and not renewing the thought of competition. Accordingly, the need for the products of creative thought from local to global is a reality. The constant renewal and staying fresh through renewing in design and innovation is only possible if the aim is not ''new'' but ''newer''. We need to be able to produce new values while giving up mediocrity and staying original by believing that different thoughts and different designs will make life better and more meaningful. Being original is as valuable as being cult. Not being original, not being able to create a unique design is nothing more than being a servant for someone else's style.

ICT for Development

ICT is central to today's most modern economies. Many international development agencies recognize the importance of ICT for Development.

Developing countries far lag developed nations in computer use and internet access. For example, on average nearly only  1% in Africa has a computer  while in North America and Europe more than half of the population have access to the Internet. Nearly 90% of students in Africa have never touched a computer.

However, ICT has impact for every part of economy. For example farmers with internet access getting better market price information and thus boosting their income.

Therefore, we should find a way to integrate every part of the society with ICT technologies. This is the only way to reach real development.

17th Eurasian Economic Summit will take on February 4-6, 2014 at WOW Hotel Convention Center in Istanbul.

We have rescheduled our Summit which we organize on April every year for two months earlier due to the local and presidential election that are going to take place in Turkey next year.

52 countries participated to the 16th Eurasian Economic Summit. From those 52 countries 11 Presidents (4 incumbent, 7 former), 1 Prime Minister, 35 Ministers, 2 Vice-Presidents, 3 Speakers of the Parliament and numerous high profile personalities have honored 16th Eurasian Economic Summit.

In the 17th Eurasian Economic Summit that we will execute on 4-5-6 February, 2014 in Istanbul we will address the issues concerning Economy, Energy, Human Trafficing, Information and Communication Technologies, Local Governance, Dialogue and Culture, Modernization and Women within the framework of ''Glocalization; Thinking Globally, Acting Locally''.

The 17th Eurasian Economic Summit, that will provide a ground to the countries of the world for their economic, political and social cooperation and their joint development, is perceived in the international arena as a commercial experience, a platform of cooperation for thought and civil initiative and a gathering of prestige.

Message from President of Marmara Group Foundation Dr. Akkan Suver

"When we first took the road to initiate the Eurasian Economic Summits there were participants from only six countries at our side. Our journey that has started in the halls of Dedeman Hotel with participants mainly from  the Caucasus and Central Asian countries is now seventeen years old.

This venture that has been initiated by an independent NGO such as the Marmara Group Foundation has enlarged its scope in such a way that it now reflects voices even  from Africa and  Latin America. We believe that this is an important achievement.

The main characteristic of the Eurasian Economic Summits as an institution that pays great attention to the needs of civil society is to contribute to the world peace  through dialogue. So we  try to urge the high level officials of our region  to care for the voices of the civil initiatives.

Marmara Group Foundation  as an  NGO and Eurasian Economic Summits as an international gathering are  being recognized more and more in today's world with their civil society identity.

If we are to evaluate our performance during the last seventeen years in accordance with the level of participation it will be seen that our name has become a well known symbol in a region that scratches from China to Peru.

We believe that this is quite a big success. And the contributors to this  are indeed  just a handful of idealistic people. These people are always ready to host more than four hundred high level personalities from more than fifty countries with their own humble resources. My friends who have believed in me and have not left me alone in this journey are offering a sacred service not only to our foundation and country but also to humanity as well. I am grateful to them all for their contribution to peace, stability and fair  distribution of wealth in the world..

We have scheduled the 17th Eurasian Economic Summit to be held in the month of February next year not to make it coincide with  the local elections in Turkey.

However, we  would like to inform you all that in succeeding  years Eurasian Economic Summits will take place in the months of April as usual."
