One of the biggest occupational accidents of recent years has occurred in Bartın.  There was mine explosion in the mine affiliated to the Amasra Institution Directorate of the Turkish Hard Coal Institution (TTK).  While 41 workers lost their lives in the disaster, 11 workers were injured.  It was announced that 58 workers were rescued.  After the mining disaster, Dr. Akkan Suver, President of the Marmara Group Foundation, published a Condolence Message.  With our civilian society identity we wish patience to the families who lost their loved ones in the great disaster we experienced in Bartın, and to our nation that came together due to this pain, and we wish God's mercy on our workers who lost their lives, and a speedy recovery to the injured."
