The Marmara Group Foundation, in its capacity as a civil society organization, has always paid attention to the peace, tranquility, and unity of the island's people in the Cyprus policy from past to present. Likewise, on international platforms, the Marmara Group Foundation has greatly valued efforts aimed at peace and tranquility in Cyprus and continues to do so.

The Greek Cypriot side, which ignores the calm and respectful behavior of the Turkish side according to international norms, continues to insist on an unserious attitude, especially with its approaches over the last two years.

Initially, the Greek side spoke of two states and insisted on a confederation. After a while, the Greek Cypriot side abandoned this idea and proposed a free federation. Later, abandoning this promise, the Greek Cypriots proposed a decentralized federation. Throughout these changes of thought within two years, they disregarded the parameters of political equality. The parameters they ignored were actually those determined by the United Nations.

We all know that there are two peoples in Cyprus. The Greeks ignore the Turkish side of these two peoples. The latest example of this emerged in the European Union parliamentary elections. Cyprus has the right to send six members of parliament to the European Parliament. Of these six members, four should be Greek and two should be Turkish. However, the Greek Cypriot side ignored the obligation to send two Turkish members of parliament and instead elected Greek members of parliament.

Their behavior regarding hydrocarbon deposits in the Eastern Mediterranean also disregards international rules. With this unserious behavior, the Greek Cypriot side insists on not approaching peace and does not recognize that there are two peoples in Cyprus.

A real solution for the future of the Turkish island is now imperative. As the Marmara Group Foundation, in our capacity as a civil society organization, we believe that it is necessary to find and demand a real solution on international platforms from now on.
