Following the War of Independence, and after an occupation that began on November 13, 1918, and lasted for 4 years, 10 months, and 23 days, enemy troops departed the city of İstanbul on October 4, 1923, after saluting the Turkish flag in front of Dolmabahçe Palace. On October 6, 1923, the Turkish army entered Istanbul amidst an enthusiastic crowd and a festive atmosphere. This date is celebrated annually as the Liberation Day of Istanbul.
On this occasion,
We commemorate Great Mustafa Kemal Pasha and his comrades—who reclaimed Istanbul for us—with gratitude, appreciation, and reverence.
