Our Republic Is 103 Years Old

The Republic of Türkiye will celebrate its 103rd anniversary on 29 October. On the occasion of this great national holiday, Dr. Akkan Suver, President of the Marmara Group Foundation, issued a statement.

Dr. Akkan Suver’s statement reads as follows: “The Republic was proclaimed by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye on 29 October 1923, following the victory of the War of Independence. The Republic has enabled Türkiye to become a modern and contemporary country. The proclamation of the Republic not only symbolised national sovereignty but also marked the beginning of profound changes in social and political life. With the proclamation of the Republic, Great Atatürk put into practice the principle that ‘Sovereignty unconditionally belongs to the nation.’ This ensured the direct participation of the people in governance.

Great Atatürk, who elevated our people from subjects to citizens, introduced to Türkiye the concept of a state governed by the rule of law, based on equality and safeguarding the rights and freedoms of individuals.

On this auspicious day, we remember Great Atatürk, who bestowed upon us Republic Day on 29 October, with gratitude and profound appreciation.

Happy Republic Day, the greatest national holiday of the Great Turkish Nation.

Long live the Republic!”
