Disaster-Resilient Cities – Avcılar Project Closing Meeting to Be Held on December 18
The closing meeting of the Disaster-Resilient Cities – Avcılar Project, which aims to build cities resilient to disasters, will be held on December 18, 2025, at the Hilton Hotel Avcılar.
During the meeting, the activities carried out throughout the project, the outcomes achieved, and the practices implemented to reduce disaster risks specifically in Avcılar will be discussed. The event will bring together experts from various disciplines and will be attended by representatives of public institutions, local governments, universities, civil society organizations, and project stakeholders.
The closing meeting will feature speeches by Dr. Akkan Suver, President of the Marmara Group Foundation; Ayşe Deniz Arıcan, Expert at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Directorate for EU Affairs; Osman Cihan Selvi, UNDP Türkiye Representative; Gökhan Oral, Head of Disaster Affairs Department of Avcılar Municipality; Müjde Çetin, Representative of Spring Global; Çağla Gürdal, Representative of Kadraj Education, Research and Consultancy; Burak Çatlıoğlu, Chairman of the Istanbul Branch of the Chamber of Geophysical Engineers; Prof. Dr. Kadir Eriş, Faculty Member at Istanbul Technical University, Department of Geological Engineering; Prof. Dr. Nilüfer Narlı, Head of the Department of Sociology at Bahçeşehir University; Kenan Mert Akbulut, Project Coordinator; Lale Aytanç Nalbant, Member of the Executive Board of the Marmara Group Foundation; Yüksel Can, Deputy Mayor of Avcılar; and Dr. Orhan Burhan, District Governor of Avcılar.
The meeting will provide a comprehensive, multi-dimensional evaluation of institutional cooperation for building disaster-resilient cities, the role of local governments, and academic contributions in this field.
