On 2 July 2026, Mr. Oğuzhan Ceylan, Member of the Executive Council of the Marmara Group Foundation, together with Mr. Ayhan Arslan, Member of the Marmara Group Foundation, attended the meeting entitled "Sovereign AI Power Index Country Rankings", held at the House of Lords of the Parliament of the United Kingdom in London.
Hosted by H.E. Baroness Manzila Uddin and organized by H.E. Ms. Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh OBE, the meeting took place in Committee Room 4A of the House of Lords. During the meeting, countries' sovereign capabilities in the field of artificial intelligence were assessed under such headings as computing power, capital formation, regulatory readiness, data sovereignty, and the implementation of artificial intelligence applications.
The panel emphasized that artificial intelligence technologies are not merely an area of technical development, but have also become a critical issue in terms of national security, public trust, data privacy, economic competitiveness, and the strategic independence of states. It was underlined that it is not sufficient for countries merely to possess AI infrastructure; rather, their ability to manage these technologies effectively, securely, and in a manner that produces measurable outcomes is the determining factor.Within the framework of the programme, the Marmara Group Foundation's commemorative gift was presented to H. E. Baroness Manzila Uddin. During the meeting, the Marmara Group Foundation delegation also had the opportunity to meet H.E. Mr. Osman Koray Ertaş, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to London, and conveyed their sincere thanks to H.E. Ms. Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh OBE for her kind invitation to the event.
The meeting provided an extremely productive and informative platform for discussing the future of national artificial intelligence strategies, countries' approaches to digital sovereignty, and Türkiye's potential in this field.Following the programme, the delegation toured the House of Lords through the courtesy of Mr. Canberk Sirmen, Adviser to H. E. Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne, and received information about the traditions of the Parliament of the United Kingdom and its historic premises.
Following the meeting, the members of the Marmara Group Foundation delegation stated that they highly value such international engagements that strengthen the academic, diplomatic, and strategic dialogue between Türkiye and the United Kingdom. They also emphasized the importance they attach to developing international cooperation in such defining fields of the future as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and data sovereignty, while expressing their sincere appreciation and gratitude to their hosts for their warm hospitality
