ROMANIA

Türkiye and Romania are the two largest states of the Balkans.

They are heirs of a common history, geography and culture. Atatürk's words, “Feelings, rather than treaties, bind nations. Romania has a brotherly place in our hearts.” reminds us in the best way how strong the foundations of our friendship are. Civil society activities have an important place in the relations of Marmara Group Foundation with Romania. Romania has always been generous to the Marmara Group Foundation as a state and nation. In particular, the relations that started during the periods of former Presidents Ion Ilescu and Emil Constantinescu and have continued uninterruptedly since then have always played a reassuring role in Turkish-Romanian relations. The Romanian State, which honored the work of the Marmara Group Foundation with its participation at the level of President, Prime Minister and Minister, awarded Dr. Akkan Suver twice in 2014 with Prime Minister Viktor Ponta and in 2019 with Prime Minister Vasilica Viorica Dancila.

The Romanian Royal Family, through Crown Queen Margareta, awarded Dr. Akkan Suver the medal of the 1st Degree Officer Title of the Romanian Crown.

Meanwhile, Constanta State Maritime University has also awarded Dr. Akkan Suver an honorary doctorate. Marmara Group Foundation continues to work with its civil society identity in the development of relations between Türkiye and Romania.

With the New Strategy Center, one of the most important think tanks of Romania, the Marmara Group Foundation has signed important collaborations in the periods we left behind. Again, the work we have put forward as a partner with the Levant Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture and Civilization, one of the famous think tanks of Romania, is important. Emil Constantinescu, President of the Levant Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture and Civilization, said the following at the signing ceremony in Istanbul.

“When I started this partnership with His Excellency Dr. Akkan Suver, it was based on the idea that the Levant Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture and Civilization and the Marmara Group Foundation share the same values of peace and economic and social development through such means.”
