TURKMENISTAN

Turkmenistan has become one of the prosperous states of today's world. Dr. Akkan Suver saw examples of this during his last visit and wrote about it in his articles. Ashgabat displays the harmony of the future and modernity and is becoming one of the most beautiful capitals of the world. Today, Turkmenistan, with its geostrategic position and rich energy resources, plays an important role in the peace, stability and prosperity of Central Asia.

On the other hand, Turkmenistan, which has been recognized for its neutrality policy for years, has received the results of its fruitful work in this field and ensured that December 12 is celebrated as “International Neutrality Day” in the world.

This decision taken by the United Nations on February 12, 2017 is, in fact, the transcendence of Turkmenistan's philosophy beyond the borders of the country, from the national to the international arena. This is a sign of confidence in the correctness of the policy pursued.

In the intervening period, Turkmenistan has persistently and diligently maintained its neutrality. In 2018, Turkmenistan once again brought the justification of its neutrality to the United Nations and this time ensured that neutrality became an international day. ‘Security’ and “stability” are at the forefront of the gains provided to Turkmenistan by the status of “Permanent Neutrality”. Therefore, it does not need serious armament. It has directed its resources to the development of the country. Foreign investments have been attracted to the country to a significant extent.

A significant psychological contribution has been provided to the country and the society in gaining self-confidence through neutrality.

It has also given Turkmenistan a certain prestige in the region.

To summarize, Turkmenistan has become the most secure and stable country among the Central Asian republics by pursuing a successful policy of neutrality in both global and regional relations.

On the other hand, the fact that the status of ‘permanent neutrality’ provides Turkmenistan with more political options in both global and regional foreign relations has provided a very effective political power to its foreign policy.

As Marmara Group Foundation, we are proud to continue our exemplary work in Turkmenistan-Türkiye civil society relations.
